Face the Truth Snapshots

Tour Director Nancy Bradford:

Bel Air was a positive stop; we gave out all our brochures in minutes! .

We had one negative experience with a mother, who stood in front of a sign to block it and put her fingers in her ears, so the sign-holder couldn't talk to her. Her teen-aged daughter stood there, looking embarrassed.

Grace Sims:

Jack Ames was out there on the median strip at White Marsh, waving the "Honk for Life" sign, yelling, "Honk, honk, honk for life!" And a whole flock of Canada geese came flying over, honking away!"

Carlos DeBayle:

Annapolis was kind of hostile territory, but it worked well. When you get a lot of negative reactions, you're reaching people. The worst thing is no reaction!

Kurt Linnemann:

At the Bel Air stop, we opened with the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel. We were 50 strong on both sides of the road, like soldiers. It was good to know that Jesus, Mary and Joseph were looking down on us.

Sharon McCall:

Whenever I stand there holding a sign, I pray that all the young people who see it will have it imprinted on their minds, so if they are ever confronted with the possibility of abortion, they won't think of doing it!

Sr. Nancy Hanson:

I thank God for all the irate people who were yelling at us in Bel Air. Hopefully, they'll get it out of their system"--and maybe they'll think. They're God's children too.

Maureen Denny:

I'm grateful for all the beautiful people involved in the pro-life movement, and for their humility. And I'm impressed by the reaction of African-Americans. They are so open; they'll listen to you.

When Father [Peter] West was saying Mass for us at Sacred Heart in Bowie, I saw bright lights around his hands as he was saying the Consecration. I told him about it afterwards.

Bernie Gugerty:

A lady at Charles and Kenilworth hollered, "You don't care about children. All you care about is the fetus!" I hollered back, "You have to have a fetus before you have a baby!"

Kevin Bruffey:

It's interesting to see the different reactions; you always get a mix. In some ways, we're preaching to the choir, but that's good. They are encouraged when they see we're out there doing something.

Jack Ames:

I saw so much passion on the part of our leaders, Nancy Bradford and Grace Sims. I don't think Grace slept more than two hours a night! And Nancy just stuck in there, making all those phone calls and doing all the detail work.

Pat Kelly:

A young lady pulled up next to me in a car. She said, "How do you do this are you with a church?" I said, "This is a Face the Truth Tour. They're doing it all over the country." She said, "This is wonderful!"
