Pro-Life Fight is Good v. Evil War

Pro-Life Training Program Series

We now start a new vein of thought in this installment of the Pro-Life Training series.  Again, these articles are based upon “The Pro-Life Training Program” by Brian Clowes of Human Life International.  I highly recommend its purchase by every committed pro-life activist.

The pro-life struggle in which we’re engaged is a microcosm of the larger struggle of good versus evil.  It is an eternal conflict.

Revelations 12:7-9 reveals the early struggle between Michael and Lucifer.  At that moment, Satan was cast out of heaven by God’s angels.  Lucifer had allowed himself to become prideful and thus he set himself at odds with God.  Michael, through God’s power, cast Lucifer and his angels into hell.  From then on, Lucifer was known as Satan and his followers are devils or demons.

The Bible and Tradition reveal that ever since, Satan has been waging war against God and his followers, Christians.  Of course, Our Lord Jesus Christ defeated Satan and obtained salvation for those who follow Him.

But Satan still roams the earth.  Satan works as he worked on Adam and Eve, goading them into pride.  If we read the book of Genesis, we see that Satan used pride to deceive them into thinking that they were the ultimate judges of right versus wrong, and that their judgment depended on their experience and perception and ability to choose.

If we but open our eyes to the world around us, we can see that is how the devil operates today.  One of the most stark examples of that in recent days occurred with the Terri Schiavo situation.

Basically, three corrupt men decided that it was “right” to brutally murder a helpless woman.  Of course, the whole abortion debacle is predicated on man’s arrogant idea that he can decide what’s right and wrong and more specifically, who is a person and who isn’t.

Only God can create something out of nothingness.  Satan cannot create anything.  He can work only by perverting what God has created.  The manifestation of pride, as described in Genesis, is in fact a perversion of authentic human freedom, as described in Veritatis Splendor.

One of God’s most precious gifts to humans is the capacity to love.  There are many human forms of love, all of which would have remained perfect, had it not been for original sin.  Because of our drive toward sin, though, one of Satan’s prime strategies is to corrupt those manifestations of love into many abominations that cause us to sin.

In thus causing us to sin, Satan enslaves us and reduces our humanity.  We have obvious examples:  love for God degraded to blasphemy, idolatry; love of self degraded to selfishness and over-indulgences; erotic love degraded to adultery, fornication, homosexuality, etc.; love of life degraded to abortion, euthanasia and the like.

Pro-abortionists operate in the same manner as Satan and have his same goals.  This is painfully apparent each time we pick up a newspaper.  While some may believe in God, many of these agents of death will claim that they do not believe in Satan,

In not believing in Satan, they are in fact falling for one of his most clever deceptions.  Those who do not believe in Satan also do not believe in personal sin and the need for God and repentance and conversion.  They really do think all they have to do is to be “nice” while they go about their death-dealing.

To quote Clowes directly, “We have become a nation of friendly, grinning psychopaths.”  To quote Baudelaire, “It is the greatest art of the Devil to convince us that he does not exist.”

Next time, we will explore what should be our proper attitude and response as Christians.
